NORFOLK, Va. - Former Old Dominion University women’s soccer defender Jackie Stroud was named the Tom Scott Award Winner, the Norfolk Sports Club announced at their luncheon on Monday. The Tom Scott Award is given to ODU's top senior student-athlete as voted on by the Norfolk Sports Club. Stroud is the first women’s soccer player to ever win the award.
“It is a great honor for Jackie to receive this award as it reflects the impact she has made on the sports fans of Norfolk,” said ODU head coach Angie Hind. “She has obviously done so well and been recognized across our conference and state of Virginia, but spending the time today with the members of the Norfolk Sports Club was fantastic and I believe highlighted what an awesome season Jackie really had this past fall. We are all very proud of her and her achievements and I know Jackie is very much a team player and knows these accolades would not have been possible without the quality and impact of the team as a whole.”
Stroud had a decorated redshirt senior season. She was named the Conference USA Defender of the Year and garnered First Team All-League honors, while also being named to the C-USA All Academic Team. She also earned a spot on the United Soccer Coaches All-South Region First Team and All-State First Team.
Stroud tied for the team’s leading goal scorer with five and led the squad in game-winners with three. She was second on team for points (13), as a defender. Stroud also dished out three assists (fourth on team). She played every minute of all 17 matches she played in this season. The team captain was instrumental in ODU allowing just one goal or less in 13 of 18 games. Stroud was a two-time Defender of the Week in 2017. She helped lead Old Dominion to its best ever season in the C-USA and the program’s best season since 2008. Stroud was an All-Conference USA honoree two years ago.
