IRVING, Texas -- Old Dominion pitcher Jim Wilkerson has been named to the 2018 InTouch Credit Union Conference USA Baseball All-Academic Team, as announced by the league office on Monday.
A history major, Wilkerson graduated this year with a GPA of 3.94. He plans to pursue a career as a history teacher.
One of the most interesting stories in all of collegiate baseball, Wilkerson is a former Marine who is currently on the GI Bill. At 27 years old, he is the oldest player in Division I baseball.
This season, Wilkerson appeared in 11 games out of the bullpen for the Monarchs, going 1-0 with a 6.32 ERA. He earned his first victory as a Monarch with two shutout innings in the win at Charlotte.
Of the 11 players named to the All-Academic Team, Wilkerson has the fourth-highest GPA.
