NORFOLK, Va. - Morgan Maguire tossed a complete game shutout and Culver Lamb went 4-for-4 to lift Old Dominion University baseball over UTSA 7-0 Saturday evening at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex.
Maguire pitched his second complete game of the season for the Monarchs, scattering five hits, striking out seven without walking a batter to pick up his team-best fourth win of the season.
The Monarchs took the lead in the third inning when Eric Stock and Culver Lamb hit back-to-back singles and Brian Morley followed with an RBI fielder's choice to score Stock for the 1-0 lead.
ODU added another run in the fifth as Tommy Bell drew a bases loaded walk to make the score 2-0.
Old Dominion tacked on three more runs in the seventh with a Morley RBI single and a two-run single from Bryce Windham. Lamb delivered the final two runs with a towering homer to right field for the final 7-0 score.
Along with his four hits, Lamb scored twice and had two RBI, while Stock had three hits and score three runs and Windham added a pair of hits.
ODU and UTSA play the series rubber game tomorrow at 11 a.m.
