Monarchs Outlast Stetson in ASUN Battle, 12-11

NORFOLK, Va. – A key save in the final seconds by goalkeeper Lauren Ey helped the Monarchs (4-8, 2-1 ASUN) hold off Stetson (2-10, 0-2 ASUN) by a 12-11 score on Sunday afternoon. Four goals by Cydney Tutchton led the offensive unit.

Old Dominion started scoring in the first minute of play by Sophia Richie. Stetson answered the ODU goal. ODU went back to back with a goal by Glory Johnson and Natalie Ledwitz.

Stetson went on to score three straight before Ledwitz, Tutchton, and Katie Miller added goals. The four goals gave ODU a 7-4 lead. Stetson and an MK Maloney goal finished first half scoring.

ODU led 8-5 heading into the second half.

Richie opened up scoring for the Monarchs in the second half. Stetson added five goals to pull within one of the Monarchs with more than eight minutes left in the second frame of play. 

A Tutchton and Richie goal with over five minutes to play in regulation gave the Monarchs a two-goal lead.

The Hatters tallied one more to pull them within striking distance but a pivotal save by Ey in the final minute held off Stetson. Ey notched six saves for the Monarchs.

The Monarchs outshot Stetson, 31-25. ODU also earned 17 draw controls over Stetson’s eight. Katie Miller tallied nine draw controls.

Richie now has 25 goals this season.
