NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion (3-8, 1-1 ASUN) lacrosse team fell to Jacksonville (8-3, 1-0 ASUN) at home on Friday afternoon by a 21-12 score. Glory Johnson tallied a career-high five goals in the ASUN matchup.
In the second half, the Monarchs scored five straight goals to inch closer to Jacksonville.
The Dolphins got on the board first. The Monarchs answered with a Sophia Richie and Johnson goal. Tallying four back-to-back goals, Jacksonville extended their lead to 10-4 with more than 10 minutes left in the first half. Johnson and Lindsay Baer tallied two more goals before first half time expired. Lauren Irvine also scored a goal in the first half.
Jacksonville scored four more and led 14-6 heading into the second frame of play. The Dolphins outshot ODU, 24-12 in the first half.
The Dolphins opened up scoring in the second half. ODU’s Richie answered three minutes later. The Dolphins scored two in a row before the Monarchs scored five straight goals contributed by Katie Miller, Johnson, Richie, and Claire Porter.
Jacksonville tallied four goals, which would end the Monarchs rally.
Defensively, Lauren Ey tallied six goals for the Monarchs. Richie earned four caused turnovers.
ODU owned 17 ground balls over the Dolphins eight.
