NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion University sailing coach Mitch Brindley hired Morgan Collins as an assistant coach, Brindley announced on Wednesday.

“Morgan had an outstanding college career for Old Dominion University, and I am thrilled to have her back working with this next generation of Monarch Sailors.”

Collins, who graduated from Old Dominion in 2011, returns to her alma mater after spending four years as an assistant coach at SUNY Maritime. At SUNY Maritime, Collins guided the Privateers to the 2014-15 national championships and resurrected the Women’s sailing team, which had not competed in four years.

Prior to joining SUNY Maritime, Collins coached various private teams along the east coast in both regional and national events.

During her sailing career with the Monarchs, Collins was a four-year member of the team and qualified for the ICSA National Singlehanded Championships in each of her four seasons with the Monarchs.  Her best finish came her junior season, when she finished fifth. She was also a member of the women’s squad that finished in third place at the women’s national championships her junior year.

In her free time, Collins is an avid runner and also competes in Match Race events.

Collins earned her degree in International Studies from ODU in 2011.
