NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion women’s soccer team capped off an impressive spring season with a 2-0 victory over Virginia Wesleyan at the ODU Soccer Complex. For the spring, ODU compiled a perfect 5-0 record, while outscoring opponents 12-0.
In the 14th minute, Madison Morningstar played a ball into the back post to Iris Achterhof, in which Achterhof's shot was saved, but the rebound fell to Gaby Bentley, who controlled the ball and volleyed it past the keeper to give the Monarchs a 1-0 lead.
Six minutes later in the 20th minute, Natalie Johnson earned a corner kick. Achterhof served the ball into the back post, where Johnson climbed above her defender and headed it in the top corner to extend ODU’s lead to 2-0.
Old Dominion created several chances in the second half and took a handful of corner kicks. The Monarchs also had numerous set pieces resulting in scrums for the ball right by the goal, with one moment being a contested clearance off the goal line.
In the end, ODU secured the 2-0 victory. Erin Davidson played 80 minutes in goal for Old Dominion, while Kasey Perry played 10 minutes of shutout ball.
