MACON, Ga. – Glory Johnson’s goal with less then two minutes left to play in the second half lifted the lacrosse Monarchs (5-8, 2-1 ASUN) over Mercer (5-8, 2-2 SoCon) on the road Friday afternoon by a 12-11 final score. The contest was a rematch of the 2017 ASUN semifinal, where Mercer defeated ODU.

Mercer got on the board first. Less than one minute later, Katie Miller tallied two goals in a row. Scoring continued to go back and forth between ODU and the Bears.

Johnson and Cydney Tutchton tallied goals to take a 6-4 lead heading into halftime.

Natalie Ledwitz notched the first goal of the second half. Sophia Richie proceeded to tally another Monarch goal, extending their lead to 8-4 with 27 minutes left to play.

Mercer went on to score five goals and tied the game at 9-9.

Ledwitz and Tutchton both tallied a goal to regain the lead, but the Bears answered with back-to-back goals to tie the contest once again.

With just under two minutes to play in regulation, Glory Johnson put one past the goalkeeper to take the lead. Glory Johnson’s five goals now puts her in second in scoring (22) on the team behind Sophia Richie (26). Johnson also notched four ground balls. 

Defensively, Lauren Ey tallied eight key saves for the Monarchs. Along with her two goals for the day, Ledwitz also tallied two caused turnovers.

Kerri Caruso, Lindsay Baer, and Richie all notched three ground balls.

As a team, ODU outshot the Bears, 31-29.
