Monarchs Fall at American, 17-12

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Old Dominion (1-3) lacrosse team fell to American (2-4) University on the road by a 17-12 score. Sophia Richie scored five goals in the Tuesday afternoon contest.

American got out to a three-goal lead. Sophia Richie answered with two-straight goals to close the deficit to just one goal. Scoring went back and forth in the first half only giving the Eagles an 11-9 lead heading into the second half. Richie scored three more goals before the first half time expired.

Old Dominion had 17 shots in the first half, while American had 18.

To start the second half, American scored five-straight to take a 16-9 lead with over 19 minutes left on the clock.

Old Dominion scored two in a row to cut the deficit to a five-goal lead for American. Claire Porter scored the first for ODU and Cydney Tutchton scored the second.

American notched one more to finish their scoring, while Natalie Ledwitz tallied a goal right before time expired in the second half. 

Porter scored her first collegiate goal.

Old Dominion outshot American, 31-29.

Lauren Ey and MaryCate Markey split time in goal. Ey had five saves and Markey had three.
