NORFOLK, Va. - Rutgers scored five runs in the top of the eighth to take a 9-5 lead and hung on to win 9-6 against Old Dominion University baseball Saturday afternoon at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex.
Old Dominion (3-7) led 5-4 entering the eighth but Rutgers (5-4) put up five runs to take the lead. Milo Freeman delivered a pinch-hit RBI single and Mike Nyisztor followed with a two-run single to make the score 7-5. Dan DiGeorgio added an RBI double as Jawuan Harris added a sacrifice fly to cap the five-run inning.
ODU scratched a run across in the bottof of the eighth on a Matt Schwarz sac fly but that was all for the Monarchs.
The Monarchs took a 5-4 lead in the sixth on a two-run homer from Erik Stock, his first career hit and home run.
The Scarlet Knights grabbed the lead in the of the inning on a wild pitch to take a 4-3 lead.
For the second-straight game, ODU scored first, starting in the second with a three-run home run from Brian Morley, his first of the season.
Devon Adams led the way for the Monarchs offensively, going 3-for-3, while DJ Lardge and Culver Lamb each went 2-for-5.
ODU and Rutgers finish off the three game set tomorrow at 1 p.m.
