Monarchs Squash the Bison in ASUN Opener, 20-8

WASHINGTON, D.C. – 13 different Monarchs scored in the Old Dominion's (2-7, 1-0 ASUN) 20- 8 win over Howard (1-4, 0-1 ASUN) in their conference opener. The Thursday afternoon win snapped the lacrosse Monarchs seven game-losing streak.

Katie Miller tallied three goals, which led the way in scoring for the Monarchs. Behind Miller, Glory Johnson, Brooke Stein, Ryann Bauer, Lauren Irvine, and MK Maloney all scored two a piece. Miller also notched eight draw controls.

"I'm very proud of our team effort today. Our players worked as a unit and this will build momentum for the rest of our conference games," said head coach Heather Holt

Opening up scoring in the first half, Katie Miller notched a bullet in the first 15 seconds.

Howard answered just seconds later. Scoring went back and forth until ODU tallied six straight to give the Monarchs a 9-3 lead.

The Bison responded with three more goals to close out the first half, while ODU tallied four more before first half time expired.

To start the second half of play, the Monarchs notched five in a row to extend their lead to 18-6. Two more goals from both teams closed out play on Thursday afternoon.

Brooke FreyGrace McCrery, and Sophie Powers all tallied their first collegiate goals, while MK Maloney and Haley Rineer tallied their first goals of the season.

Defensively, MaryCate Markey earned her first win in goal and tallied three saves.
