CLEVELAND, Ohio – Moving on to day two of the NCAA Championships, Michael McGee (125) and Larry Early (157) advance in the consolation bracket after winning their first consolation round matches.
To start the day, Larry Early had a pigtail match prior to the round of 32 in the 157-pound weight class. Early picked up a 7-4 decision over Tyler Marinelli of Gardner-Webb. In his second bout of the day, Early suffered a loss by pin to #14 Andrew Crone of Wisconsin. Moving to the consolation bracket, Early defeated Colin Heffernan of CMU with a takedown in the final seconds of the bout.
Nearly upsetting the #5 seed, 125-pound Michael McGee dropped his opening round match in overtime. In his consolation bout, McGee defeated Paul Bianchi (NDSU) by a 7-4 score. He also moves on to the second consolation round at 125 pounds.
At 141 pounds, Alex Madrigal suffered a loss by technical fall to the #4 seed and previous All-American Joey McKenna of Ohio State. In his wrestleback, Madrigal fell to George Mason’s Tejon Anthony by a 9-4 score.
Seldon Wright dropped his opening round match to MAC opponent CJ Brucki by major decision. Facing Matt Finesilver in the first wrestleback round, Wright dropped a 4-1 decision.
