NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion (1-4) lacrosse team fell to Richmond (4-1) at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex on Saturday afternoon by a 15-5 score. True freshman MaryCate Markey made her first start in goal for the Monarchs.
The Spiders scored nine straight to start off the first half of play. A Sophia Richie goal put the Monarchs on the board with less than 13 minutes left to play in the first half. Richmond tallied four more goals to close out first half scoring. The Spiders took a 13-1 lead heading into the second half.
The Monarchs opened up the second with three consecutive goals to cut the Richmond lead to 13-4. Katie Miller tallied two and Glory Johnson scored another. Richmond answered with two more goals. Freshman Lindsay Baer tallied the last goal of the contest and her third of the season.
Katie Sciandra notched six goals for the Spiders.
Offensively, Richmond outshot ODU, 26-25. Richmond took 19 shots in the first half, while ODU took 16 in the second. Katie Miller took six shots for the Monarchs. Lauren Irvine won four draw controls.
Defensively, Kerri Caruso tallied four caused turnovers.
