Hind Inks Nine Highly Touted Players for 2018 Class

NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion University women’s soccer head coach Angie Hind announced the addition of nine new players to the 2018 roster on Friday afternoon.

“We are really thrilled to have signed a class which we believe to be extremely talented, good students and most importantly great people,” explained Hind. “Each of these players bring something different to this team but talent alone is not enough to make an impact, therefore we are equally as excited by the ambition they have each voiced in wanting make a real impact on this program. We are in a strong place right now and we firmly believe that this 2018 class will have a big part to play in our future. As a coaching staff and team we welcome the 2018 class and look forward to them making their mark as part of ODU Women’s Soccer.”

MEET THE NEWEST MONARCHS

Name: Jasmine Crawley
Position: Goalkeeper
Club: Beach FC
High School: Landstown
Hometown: Virginia Beach, Va.
Family: Daughter of Edward and Emily Crawley, sister to little brother Eddie and older brother Trenton.

Why ODU?: "I chose ODU because I loved the atmosphere of not only the campus and the school, but also the atmosphere of the team and soccer program. I think it is the best fit for me to develop and become a better student and athlete.”

Academic Interest: Exercise Science

Honors: First Team All-Conference, First Team All-Region, First Team All-State and First Team All-Tidewater.

Hind on Jasmine Crawley:
“We are excited to welcome Jasmine to ODU Women’s Soccer. As a goalkeeper, she possesses great qualities and the athletic potential to make a real impact. She has great size, athleticism and is so explosive in shot stopping situations. I think she will develop so much from being in this full-time environment and is ready for the next level. It excites us even more that she is another local player and we are thrilled to have Jasmine be a part of our Monarch family.”

Name: Emily Garrick
Position: Midfield

High School: Liberty
Hometown: Eldersburg, Md.
Family: Daughter of Rob and Tina Garrick, sister of Hayley.

Why ODU?: "I chose ODU because from the beginning everyone was very welcoming and I connected with the coaches. I really like the location and the great academic programs ODU offers. I wanted to be a part of the up and coming program and thought it was a perfect fit."

Academic Interest: Health/Science

High School: Captain, All-Conference, All-State and All-County.

Hind on Emily Garrick:
“I am thrilled that Emily will be joining our program as she is a talented midfielder with great composure on the ball and vision. She is a player that we have built a great relationship with during the recruiting process and feel she is also a very genuine person who will work hard and has the ambition and drive to develop into a real talent. As a staff, we are very excited to work with Emily and see what impact she can make on the future of ODU Women’s Soccer."

Position: Defense

High School: Bastrop
Hometown: Bastrop, Texas
Family: Daughter of David and Patricia Hastings, sister to Paige. Father played Football at Baylor University.

Why ODU?: "I chose ODU because Coach Hind and Coach Barr were very personable and Old Dominion was somewhere I could see myself thriving not only athletically, but also academically."

Academic Interest: Plan on majoring in biochemistry to later pursue a career in Forensic Pathology.

High School: Captain, First Team All-District (3 Years), Defensive MVP Bastrop HS (3 Years), Defensive MVP District 26-5A (2 Years), Academic All-State, Academic All-District and National Honors Society.  

Hind on Lana Hastings:
“We are delighted to welcome Lana as part of our women’s soccer program. She is a tough defender, who has great presence on the field.  She also has strong qualities on the ball, which is key for our style of play. Coming from a very strong club this will also bring an intensity and winning mentality and so we are excited as a staff to work with Lana, help her develop as a player and look forward to the contribution she will make to our defensive line and team as a whole.”

Position: Forward, Midfield
Club Team: Richmond United ECNL
High School: Nansemond River
Hometown: Suffolk, Va.
Family: Daughter of Corey and Yolanda Hunter, sister to Corey, Antonio and Troy. Father played college football at New Mexico Military Institute.

Why ODU?: "I chose ODU because the coaching staff was very welcoming and I felt it was the best place to develop my game. I was also impressed with how they were successfully improving the program."

Hind on Indiah Hunter:
“I am so excited to have Indiah as part of our 2018 class. She is another local talent that plays with a very good club. Indiah has great athleticism and the ability to create and make things happen in the final third. She is a hard working player who we believe will develop even more within our team environment and style of play. As a wide player she has the ability to get in behind defenses and will bring something different to our current team. As a person she is bright, engaging and eager to learn and so we are looking forward to the opportunity to work with her and see her impact on the team."

Position: Defense

High School: Toms River North
Hometown: Toms River, N.J.
Family: Daughter of Jennifer and David Kennett, sister to Morgan and Cameron. Father played baseball at James Madison University.

Why ODU?: “I chose ODU because when I first visited I really loved the campus, coaches and the team. Everyone was very welcoming and I felt like this was the best fit for me both academically and athletically."

Hind on Riley Kennett:
“We are thrilled to welcome Riley to ODU Women’s Soccer. She is a very bright young woman who has both the stature and quality to bring much to this program. As a central defender, she is very strong in the air and reads the play well and above that has the ability to play from the back line. I think Riley is ready for the step into the college game and we look forward to helping her develop further as a soccer player and contribute to the future of this program."

Family: Daughter of Tony and Camille Palmer, sister of Talea.

Hind on Maya Palmer:
“I am thrilled to have Maya join our team this fall. She is a tenacious and fearless defender with the ability to communicate well with others around her. She has the quality to play either centrally or wide and possesses very good 1v1 defensive ability and has the athleticism to cope well against tough opponents. As a person, Maya is very driven and committed and I am excited to work with her as these attributes, teamed with the right environment can provide a tremendous opportunity for development. We are excited to see what Maya will bring to the future of this program and we are looking forward to working with her on a daily basis.”

The communications program is highly recognized in the media community. I am happy to be a part of the soccer team and have great academics to achieve my career goals.”

Hind on Jamie Skarupsky:
“We are excited that Jamie has chosen to join ODU Women’s Soccer. As a goalkeeper, she has a great physique and presence in the goal and we have simply seen her grow so much through the recruiting process. She communicates well and has the potential to have a very commanding presence in the box. As a person she shows great maturity and an eagerness to develop and so we are excited to see the impact that Jamie can make on our goalkeeper position and welcome her as part of the ODU Women’s Soccer family.”

Honors: VHSL 6A All-State First Team, All-Tidewater First Team, VHSL South Region First Team, Honor Roll Student, National Honor Society Member and SCA Officer.

Hind on Reagan Tate:
“I am happy to be able to continue to add some of the best young talent from our area to our squad. Reagan is a player that we have watched grow as a player over recent years and the level she is now at excites us a staff. She is a very dedicated player who works hard on her game and with that she now possesses great technical ability, quality on the ball and an ability to impact the game from either midfield or defense. As a program, we want players who are committed to their own development and therefore we are so excited to have Reagan be part of our future.”

Hind on Emma Terefenko:
“Emma is a very composed central defender who has good athleticism and game awareness. Her ability to show good composure on the ball as well as communicate with those around her make her a great addition to our team. As a person, she is bright, respectful and very engaging and shows a real desire to want to learn and therefore we are very excited to have Emma come to ODU. We feel she will thrive in the environment here and allow her to continue to develop even further. As a staff, we really look forward to Emma joining our Monarch family."
