NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion (1-2) lacrosse team fell to Liberty (4-1) by a score of 14-12 on Wednesday afternoon at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex. Sophia Richie tallied four goals, while Brooke Stein notched three.
Old Dominion got out to a four-goal lead in the first half. Four different Monarchs scored goals in that span including Ryann Bauer, Sophia Richie, Cydney Tutchton, and Brooke Stein.
Liberty scored two-straight to bring the ODU lead to just 4-2.
Two goals by Sophia Richie propelled the Monarchs ahead of the Flames with over nine minutes left in the first half.
Liberty and Old Dominion traded goals heading into the second half and the Old Dominion lead was cut down to 8-6. Glory Johnson scored her first goal as a Monarch with two minutes left to play in the first half.
At the half, Old Dominion and Liberty both took 16 shots a piece. Liberty had 16 turnovers in the first half, while Old Dominion had just seven.
Scoring began just three minutes into the second half by Katie Miller.
The Flames proceeded to score five straight to take an 11-9 lead.
Old Dominion answered when Brooke Stein fed Natalie Ledwitz the ball and scored. Less than a minute later, Stein scored to tally her sixth goal of the season.
Liberty scored three in a row to take the 14-11 lead with just over three minutes left in regulation.
Stein scored one more goal to end the game.
Defensively, Lauren Ey had 12 saves in the net for the Monarchs, a season high for the junior. Alyssa Sebesto had four caused turnovers.
