SAN ANTONIO -- In a contest that featured eight lead changes, the Old Dominion women's basketball team fell in a close game at UTSA, 64-56, on Saturday evening at the UTSA Convocation Center.

"This was our game to win," said head coach Nikki McCray-Penson. "We just didn't do the little things down the stretch. When you are on the road, you have to pay attention to the little things. I thought we had crucial turnovers down the stretch that cost us."

Old Dominion (2-15, 0-4 C-USA) held a one-point lead at 47-46 entering the fourth quarter, but UTSA (3-13, 1-3 C-USA) shot 50 percent from the field and outscored ODU, 18-9, in the final quarter to pull out the victory. With just over two to play, an Ashley Jackson jumper cut the Roadrunner lead to 57-56, but UTSA went 5-for-5 from the charity stripe down the stretch to seal the win.

Kelly Loftus led ODU with 18 points, including five threes. Taylor Edwards posted her second double-double of her career with 11 points and 13 rebounds to go along with a team-high four assists.

Odegua Oigbokie also finished in double figures with 12 points and eight boards.

"We wanted to get the ball inside and play off of Odegua," said McCray. "Then, Kelly got hot, and we found her early. And we wanted to just continue to play off of the hot hand."

Overall, the Monarchs shot 40 percent as a team and held UTSA to 39 percent. On the glass, ODU held a 41-33 advantage, but had just five second-chance points.

From the three-point line, ODU shot 26 percent, while the Roadrunners were 38 percent from deep, including six triples from Carlie Heineman, who finished with 18 points.

Marie Benson led UTSA with 19 points and 12 rebounds.

"In any conference, it's hard to win on the road," said McCray. "But, you want to take advantage of those opportunities."

Up next, ODU plays its third game in five days, traveling to Hampton on Monday at 7 p.m.
