NORFOLK, Va. – Four Old Dominion men’s soccer players were voted to the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I 2017 All-Southeast Region Teams announced by the organization this week. Mertcan Akar was named to the First Team, while Fox Slotemaker, Niko Klosterhalfen, and Max Wilschrey were named to the Second Team.

Akar, who tallied 10 shutouts in his sophomore year, led the Monarchs to the 2017 C-USA Conference Championship. Akar was named to the C-USA First Team All-Conference as well as the recipient of the Golden Glove Award by the C-USA. After posting a shutout in the C-USA Conference Championship game over Charlotte, Akar was named Tournament Defensive MVP. Akar was picked C-USA Defender of the Week three times this season.

Named to the Second Team All-Region, Fox Slotemaker tallied one goal and three assists as a defender. The senior transfer from Buffalo was a captain for the 2017 season. Slotemaker was named to the C-USA Second Team All-Conference as well as the All-Tournament Team.

Along with Slotemaker, Niko Klosterhalfen was named to the Second Team All-Southeast Region. The German native tallied five goals and three assists throughout the 2017 season. Klosterhalfen was also named to the C-USA All-Academic Team as well as the C-USA Second Team All-Conference. After scoring the lone goal in the C-USA Championship game over Charlotte, Klosterhalfen was named the Tournament Offensive MVP.

Junior Max Wilschrey posted a team-high eight goals with one assist in the 2017 season. The forward played in each game for the Monarchs. Wilschrey was named to the C-USA Third Team All-Conference.
