NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion men’s basketball team (8-3, 0-0 C-USA) will take on crosstown rival Norfolk State (1-11, 0-0 MEAC) on Friday, Dec. 22 at 7:00 p.m. at the Norfolk Scope Arena.

TICKETS
Tickets are available online at http://www.sevenvenues.com/events/detail/odu-vs-nsu or by calling the Scope Box Office at 1-800-745-3000. All seats are priced at $17.00. A limited number of ODU student tickets will be distributed at the game on a first-come, first served basis. ODU students must show a valid student ID upon entry to receive free admission.

PARKING
City parking is $5 per vehicle in the Scope garage and in adjacent surface lots around Scope. The garage is expected to fill quickly. Fans should look to park in surface lots if they are planning to arrive close to tipoff. Disabled access parking in the Scope Garage is available on a first-come, first-served basis. THROWBACK NIGHT
Both ODU and NSU will reach back in time for a “Throwback Night” theme on Friday night. Each program has a rich history of basketball at Scope. ODU will don light blue jerseys reminiscent of the uniforms first worn by the school’s basketball team while playing at Scope. Replica throwback jerseys will be available for sale at the ODU Bookstore kiosk at the game. ODU is also encouraging fans to post their favorite vintage ODU Basketball photo to their social media account with #ODUThrowback. The first 200 fans at the game to show their #ODUThrowback social media post at the marketing table on the Scope concourse will receive an ODU Throwback Night t-shirt.

HALFTIME
Finally, at halftime both team’s will honor their past. First, ODU will feature a video reliving some of its best basketball moments at Scope. Norfolk State will follow by honoring former players who helped guide the Spartans to C-I-A-A titles in 1965 and 1968. The Spartans advanced to the N-A-I-A national semifinals in 1966 and made the first 3 NCAA Division II Regional appearances in school history in 1965, 68 and 69.  The Spartans went on to lead the nation in scoring in 1969, capping the season with a 113 to 102 win over Old Dominion at the NCAA South Atlantic Region in Norfolk. 

NORFOLK SCOPE ARENA
ODU enjoyed a rich basketball history at Norfolk Scope. In 30 years, ODU compiled a 208-87 (.710) record, which includes a 9-0 record in 1992-93 and three other seasons with 13 or more home wins (14-4 in 1981-82).

The first game was a 122-119 overtime loss to Norfolk State. Teams such as Indiana, BYU, Marquette, DePaul, Wake Forest, North Carolina, Virginia, Georgia Tech, Florida state, California, Mississippi State, Alabama and UNLV have played ODU in the Scope. Nationally ranked Arizona, Missouri and Magic Johnson’s Michigan State team also played at Scope.

-Div. II - ODU defeats California 84-73 in the Kiwanis Finals (Jeff Fuhrmann scores 26).

-ODU defeats Florida State, 80-76 in 2 OT’s in Kiwanis Finals, 1978-79 - Ronnie Valentine with 23 pts and 13 rebs.

-ODU rallies to beat the Soviet Union National team 76-74 overtime, 1979-80.

-ODU beats #3 Syracuse, 68-67 on Bobby Vaughan’s tip in at the buzzer on NBC in 1980. Ronnie McAdoo scored 21.

-ODU beats rival JMU, 58-57 for the 1981-82 ECAC South Title - Billy Mann leads with 19 pts.

-ODU beats Charlotte, 86-50 in 1984-85 for Paul Webb’s 500th career collegiate win.

-ODU beats (1986-87) W&M, 56-54 on Frank Smith’s buzzer shot....That same year, ODU beats Maryland 87-73.

-Down 17 late in the second half, ODu rallies to beat JMU 85-81 in 1990 (AC Carver scored 21, Chris gatling 20).

-ODU defeated W&M in overtime, 102-92, ODU outscored the Tribe 25-15 in OT which 40 totals points tied a then NCAA mark for an overtime by 2 teams.

-ODU beats Alabama, 93-91 in 1992-93 as Keith Jackson scored 23 and freshman Odell Hodge adds 21.

-ODU hits 17-24 three-pointers (.708) to beat JMU; 92-88 in 1992-93 (Sessoms 31, Jackson 33 pts).

-ODU beats Virginia, 76-69 in 1993-94. Hodge 23 pts and 9 boards.

-Mark Poag goes a perfect nine-for-nine in 3 pointers to set a new NCAA single game Mark in win over VMI in 1997 (84-69).

ALL-TIME SERIES
-Friday night will mark the 19th all-time meeting between ODU and NSU.

-Old Dominion leads the all-time series with Norfolk State, 12-6.

-The Monarchs have won six of the last seven meetings and two in a row.

-These two schools first met during the 1965-66 season, in a game ODU won 86-82.
