NORFOLK, Va. -- Following its first win of the season, the Old Dominion women's basketball team hosts Cincinnati on Sunday at 2 p.m. for the Monarchs' fifth consecutive home game.
Behind a school-record thirteen three-pointers, Old Dominion (1-6) defeated Coppin State, 75-67, on Thursday, handing first-year head coach Nikki McCray-Penson the first win of her head-coaching career. The 75 points were a season high for the Monarchs.
The duo of Kelly Loftus and Victoria Morris led ODU's barrage from beyond the arc, combining for 10 triples, including seven in the fourth quarter. Morris, a true freshman guard from Cincinnati, leads the team in scoring with 12.6 points per game. The last freshman to lead ODU in scoring for a season was Celeste Hill in 1990-91.
Senior forward Odegua Oigbokie is also averaging double figures at 10.9 points per game, while Ashley Jackson and Loftus are both averaging over eight points per game.
This will be just the second all-time meeting between Old Dominion and Cincinnati. The only prior matchup came in 1987, when ODU defeated Cincinnati, 59-49, in the season opener.
