NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion (9-5-2, 6-2-0 C-USA) men’s soccer team, seeded at No. 2, will face the No. 7 seed, South Carolina Gamecocks (6-8-2, 2-4-2 C-USA) on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the ODU Soccer Complex in the C-USA Championship quarterfinal match. Old Dominion hosts the C-USA Championship for the second time since joining the league.
Old Dominion and South Carolina will meet for the second time in two weeks.
The Monarchs are most recently coming off a win over New Mexico, 1-0. Sebastien Hauret tallied his fifth goal of the season on Friday night.
While Hauret has scored once in each of the Monarchs last four matches, Brandon Perdue and Max Wilschrey remain leading the Monarchs in goals with six a piece.
Four teams in the C-USA including Old Dominion, FIU, Kentucky, and New Mexico have been ranked at least once in the United Coaches Soccer Poll. As of this week, FIU is the only team that sits in the rankings at No. 7.
Championship History at Home
The last time Old Dominion hosted the C-USA Championship in 2014, the Monarchs won over South Carolina, 2-1.
About South Carolina
The Gamecocks have won their second league match on Friday night over UAB to qualify for the C-USA Championship. Luca Mayr leads South Carolina with six goals and 45 shots. The Gamecocks have faced five ranked opponents this season, while only defeating one, No. 13 Furman.
Last Time Out
The last time these two teams met, South Carolina scored in the second half to defeat the Monarchs, 3-2 and win their first league match this season.
Series History
Old Dominion holds a 6-4-0 record against South Carolina. This will be the second straight season that Old Dominion plays South Carolina twice in one season.
