Five Monarchs Score in Double Figures as ODU Downs CNU, 101-46

NORFOLK, Va. – Five Monarchs scored in double-figures as the Old Dominion men’s basketball team downed Christopher Newport by a 101-46 score in an exhibition game on Sunday afternoon at the Ted Constant Convocation Center.

“All around this was a good performance for us,” said ODU head coach Jeff Jones. “I really liked that we were able to get out and run in the open court. Now, we have four days until Towson and we have to keep making progress everyday.”

Randy Haynes paced the Monarchs with 17 points, while Xavier Green (16 points), Brandan Stith (14 points and 11 rebounds), Trey Porter (13 points) and Ahmad Caver (10 points, nine assists and no turnovers) joined Haynes in double-figures.

The Monarchs claimed a 48-21 advantage at the half, behind Brandan Stith’s 12 points ad nine rebounds, followed by Haynes’ 11 points.

Midway through the second half, ODU extended its lead to 50, 81-31, before ultimately claiming a 55-point victory on Sunday in Norfolk.

For the game, the Monarchs shot 54.5% (36-66) from the floor, while the Captains connected on 30.9% (17-55) of their field goal attempts.

Old Dominion will kick off the 2017-18 regular season at home on Friday Nov. 10, when the Monarchs host Towson for a 7:00 p.m. tipoff.
