NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion women's basketball team hosts Coppin State on Thursday at 11 a.m. for the seventh annual Education Day game at the Ted Constant Center.
One of the highlights of the ODU sports schedule, the Education Day game welcomes over 6,000 students from Norfolk Public Schools to The Ted every year. The game has been a sell-out for the past three seasons and last year's attendance of 8,563 is a Ted Constant Center record.
Old Dominion (0-6) is 5-1 all-time in Education Day games after defeating Dartmouth, 82-56, last season.
This season, the Monarchs have been led by guard Victoria Morris and senior forward Odegua Oigbokie, who are tied for the team lead in scoring with 11.3 points per game. On Monday, Morris was named the Conference USA Freshman of the Week after averaging 10.0 points and 3.0 assists in three games last week.
Last time out, ODU fell to Richmond, 54-45. The Monarchs held the Spiders 25 points below their season scoring average, but Richmond utilized a strong third quarter to pull away from ODU in the second half.
This will be the first-ever meeting between ODU and Coppin State.
In a new wrinkle to the Monarchs' schedule, Thursday's contest will be the first of two Education Day games this season. ODU's game against FIU on Feb 2. will be the second Education Day.
