BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The No. 25 Old Dominion (13-5-2) men’s soccer team travels to Bloomington, Indiana to face the No. 2 Indiana (15-0-5) Hoosiers in the Second Round of the NCAA Championship. Big Ten Network will provide live video of the game for FREE.
The Monarchs are most recently coming off a shutout at home over NC State in the First Round of the NCAA Championship.
Mertcan Akar tallied his fifth straight shutout and 10th shutout overall this season. The last time a Monarch goalkeeper notched five straight shutouts was in 2006. In that same season, ODU also tallied 10 shutouts.
Max Wilschrey tallied a goal in the Monarchs victory over NC State; Wilschrey now leads the team in goals with eight. Trailing close behind is freshman Brandon Perdue with seven.
About Indiana
Indiana fell to Wisconsin in penalty kicks in the Big Ten Men’s Soccer Tournament. Regardless of that match against the Badgers, the Hoosiers have not dropped a match this season. Mason Toye, their leading goal scorer has tallied nine goals this season. The Hoosiers have 16 shutouts and goalkeeper Trey Muse has 50 saves. Offensively, Indiana has totaled 42 goals this season.
Head coach Todd Yeagley has led the Hoosiers to a 2012 NCAA Championship Title and has been with the program for eight years. This is the 31st NCAA Championship berth for the Hoosiers.
Series History
In 2011, the Monarchs fell to the Hoosiers in the second round of the NCAA Championship, 0-3. The 2011 match was the only other time the two teams have met.
