NORFOLK, Va. -- Head coach Murray Rudisill and the Old Dominion men's golf program announced the signing of Chris Ayers to a national letter of intent on Thursday.
Ayers, who will join the Monarchs for the 2018-19 season, played this past fall at Midland Junior College in Texas. Ayers is currently ranked the No. 11 juco player in the nation with a 73.14 scoring average, while Midland ended the fall ranked as the No. 3 team in the nation. Ayers notched three top-10 finishes for Midland this fall and helped guide the Chaparrals to three tournament titles.
"We are excited to have Chris join our squad next fall," said Rudisill. "He will have an immediate impact on the team and will have three years of eligibility at ODU."
A Wethersfield, Connecticut, native, Ayers attended Wethersfield High School, where he was the No. 1 player for the team. In 2016, Ayers won the New England Junior Challenge, as part of the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour, the largest junior golf tour in the U.S.
"We feel he will be a great addition to our starting lineup next fall," said Rudisill of Ayers.
