NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion (11-5-2, 8-2-0 C-USA) men’s soccer team topped Marshall (8-10-1, 4-6-0 C-USA) on Friday night at the ODU Soccer Complex, 1-0. The Monarchs head to the C-USA final for the first time since winning in 2014. ODU will face Charlotte, who upset No. 8 FIU in their semifinal match.
Scoring began in just the ninth minute for the Monarchs. Off a pass from Sebastien Hauret, Max Wilschrey blasted one past the Marshall goalkeeper for his seventh goal of the season. Wilschrey now leads the Monarchs in goals for the season with seven.
In goal, Nate Himes had five saves for the Herd, while Mertcan Akar tallied three saves. Akar notched his eighth shutout of the season on Friday night.
Old Dominion took the advantage in shots, 12-6.
Wilschrey, Hauret, and Klosterhalfen took three shots respectively.
