CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Old Dominion (7-1-2, 4-0-0 C-USA) men’s soccer team topped the Charlotte 49ers (3-3-3, 1-1-2 C-USA) on Friday night in Charlotte, 2-1. The Monarchs extend their win streak to five as well as remain undefeated in C-USA play. ODU stands atop of the C-USA standings with 12 points.
The scoring began early for the 49ers. Fernando Garcia scored in the 7th minute to give Charlotte the advantage going into the half.
To kick off the second half, in the 61st minute, an own goal by Charlotte tied the game up for the Monarchs.
In the 81st minute, Max Wilschrey notched his fifth goal of the season after blasting a penalty kick past the Charlotte goalkeeper, giving ODU the 2-1 lead.
Charlotte outshot ODU, 17-3 Friday night.
Goalkeeper Mertcan Akar tallied nine saves, the most he has had in one game all season.

The Monarchs return home on Saturday, Oct. 14 at the ODU Soccer Complex for a 6PM kickoff against non-conference foe Coastal Carolina.
