NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion women's basketball team hosts Christopher Newport on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Ted Constant Center for its lone exhibition of the 2017-18 season.
The exhibition marks the first time the Monarchs will officially hit the court under newly-appointed head coach Nikki McCray-Penson. McCray, who previously served as an assistant coach at South Carolina and helped guide the Gamecocks to the 2017 NCAA Championship, was hired in May of 2017.
Old Dominion is coming off a 17-14 year last season that ended in the quarterfinals of the Conference USA Tournament. McCray and the Monarchs return seven players from last season, including the senior trio of Ashley Jackson, Odegua Oigbokie and Hofstra transfer Kelly Loftus.
ODU also welcomes the addition of three true freshmen in Dejah Carter, Lovie Harden and Victoria Morris.
Last year, the Monarchs posted a 10-5 home record at The Ted.
Following Wednesday's exhibition, ODU officially opens the season at home against Liberty on Friday, Nov. 10, at 4 p.m. in the first round of the Preseason WNIT.
