ODU Drops C-USA Match to No. 8 FIU, 3-1

MIAMI, Fla. – The Old Dominion men’s soccer team (8-4-2, 5-1-0 C-USA) fell to C-USA opponent, FIU (11-0-3, 6-0-1 C-USA) on Wednesday night in Miami, Fla., 3-1. Sebastien Hauret scored his third goal of the season and the only Monarch goal of the night.

The match remained scoreless through the first half.

Scoring began in the 56th minute for the Panthers as C-USA offensive leader; Santiago Patino scored the first goal of the game from a breakaway. 

The Panthers tallied another goal in the 66th minute.

The Monarchs answered in the 77th minute off a free kick from Hauret, which closed the Panther lead to 2-1. 

In the last seconds in regulation, the Panthers notched one final goal to extend their lead. 

In the last five minutes of play, the Monarchs had three corner kicks, which never found the back of the net. The Monarchs took the advantage in corner kicks, 9-4. However, the Panthers marked 17 shots, while the Monarchs owned eight.

C-USA Defensive Player of the Week, Mertcan Akar notched seven saves Wednesday night.
