ODU Travels to No. 11 FIU for C-USA Clash

MIAMI, Fla. - The Old Dominion (8-3-2, 5-0-0 C-USA) men’s soccer team faces league leader No. 11 FIU (10-0-3, 5-0-1 C-USA) on Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 7PM in Miami, Fla. The Monarchs look to regain the lead in C-USA standings.

The Monarchs are coming off a 1-0 victory over C-USA opponent Marshall on Saturday, Oct. 21. Sebastien Hauret claimed the lone goal of the night off a PK. Hauret scored his second goal of the season.

Mertcan Akar has tallied 59 saves in goal for the Monarchs, including a season high nine saves against No. 4 UNC on Oct. 17.

Offensively, Brandon Perdue and Max Wilschrey lead the Monarchs with six goals apiece. The Monarchs were awarded three penalty kicks, which they successfully made all three. Two came from Hauret, while Wilschrey struck the third.

The Monarchs are looking to extend their C-USA win streak to six against FIU as well as defeat their second nationally ranked opponent this season. 

Battle of the Unbeatens
Both ODU and FIU remain the only two teams unbeaten in league play. While ODU is coming off a C-USA win over Marshall, No. 11 FIU blanked No. 24 New Mexico on Saturday, 4-0. FIU has not faced any other ranked opponents this season. The Panthers lead the conference with 16 points, while ODU trails close behind with 15 pointes. FIU has played one more conference game than ODU so far.

About FIU
FIU is only one of two NCAA teams that are still undefeated thus far this season including Indiana. FIU has tallied 41 goals this season; their leading goal scorer is junior Santiago Patino. The four-time Offensive Player of the Week has 12 goals and four assists on the season. Defensively, opponents have only scored 15 goals on the Panthers this season. FIU goalkeeper, Hugo Fauroux has spent over 1114 minutes in net and 40 saves for the Panthers.

The Monarchs travel to South Carolina on Sunday, Oct. 29 for a 2PM pitch against the gamecocks in a C-USA match.
