BLACKSBURG, Va. – Nataliia Vlasova of the ODU women’s tennis team won her first three matches and advanced to the Quarterfinals of the 2017 ITA Atlantic Regional Tournament at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center. In the Quarterfinals, Vlasova fell to No. 2 seed/No. 56 nationally ranked Natalie Novotna of Virginia Tech in a hard-fought three-setter.
“Nataliia had a great tournament,” said ODU head coach Dominic Manilla. “She had three high level wins the last few days and today competed until the end. She showed a lot of grit and determination and we are proud of her.”
In her first match of the Regional Tournament, Vlasova downed No. 5 seed/No. 124 nationally ranked Meghan Kelley of UVA 5-7, 7-5, 7-6(4).
Next, Vlasova proved to be too much for Virginia Tech’s Nina Sorkin (6-4, 6-4).
In the Third Round, Vlasova again won in straight sets, this time against Maryland’s Ekaterina Tour 6-4, 7-6(3).
After dropping the first set (2-6) in the Quarterfinals against Natalie Novotna (VT), Vlasova fought back and won the second set 6-1. Vlasova had the third set tied 2-2, before Novotna eventually claimed the next four games to win the third set 6-2.
