NORFOLK, Va. - The No. 18 Monarchs (7-2-2, 4-0-0 C-USA) fell to the Chanticleers of Coastal Carolina (6-6-0, 1-1-0 Sun Belt) on Saturday night at the ODU Soccer Complex, 5-2.
Scoring began in the second minute for the Chanticleers. Martin Melchor notched his first goal of the game with no assist.
The Chanticleers scored again in the 14th minute to take a 2-0 lead going into the second half.
In the 47th minute, Sebastian Hauret was given a penalty kick, which he blasted to the right side of the net to get the Monarchs within one.
Senior Fox Slotemaker knocked one in after a free kick taken by Hauret in the 69th minute to tie up the game for the Monarchs.
Coastal Carolina answered in the 74th minute after a second Melchor goal.
The Chanticleers notched two goals within one minute, a goal by Louis Dargent and another by Melchor to end the match, 5-2.
Monarch goalkeeper Mertcan Akar tallied five saves, while Coastal Carolina goalkeeper tallied three.
Fox Slotemaker and Sebastian Hauret both notched their first goals of the season tonight.
