 NORFOLK, Va. – The No. 18 Old Dominion (7-1-2, 4-0-0 C-USA) men’s soccer team welcomes Coastal Carolina (5-6-0, 1-1-0 Sun Belt) for a non-conference matchup on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 6 PM in Norfolk, Va.

The Monarchs are coming off a hard-fought win over Charlotte on Oct. 6 at Charlotte, 2-1. Remaining undefeated in league play, the Monarchs sit on top of the C-USA standings.

Brandon Perdue continues to lead the Monarchs with six goals and 16 points on the season. Max Wilschrey trails close behind with five goals and 11 points.

Two-time C-USA defensive player of the week, Mertcan Akar is looking for his fifth shutout and has only let in 11 goals this season. His current save percentage is .784 and has 39 saves this season.

Return to the Ranks
After four weeks unranked, the Monarchs return back to the United Soccer Coaches Poll at No. 18. The Monarchs were last ranked the week of Aug. 22 at No. 20.

Adding to that, the Monarchs RPI has jumped to 23 this week.

Junior Max Wilschrey helped the Monarchs regain their ranking when he blasted a penalty kick past Charlotte goalkeeper. Wilschrey also received NCAA Men’s Player of the Week on Wednesday morning.

Sitting at 16th in scoring offense, the Monarchs have scored 21 goals this season, averaging 2.10 goals per game.

About Coastal Carolina
The Chanticleers (5-6-0) are most recently coming off a win against Sun Belt opponent Hartwick, 1-0. Playing in all 11 games, Frantzdy Pierrot leads Coastal Carolina in goals with three. Defensively, Braullo Linares-Ortiz has spent most of the time in net for the Chanticleers, notching 40 saves this season, just one more than Monarch goalkeeper Akar.

Series History
The Chanticleers own a 1-3-0 mark against the Monarchs. The last time the two met, Coastal Carolina defeated the Monarchs 3-2 in Conway, S.C.

Next Up
The Monarchs travel to Chapel Hill, N.C. on Oct. 17 to face the No. 3 Tar Heels of the University of North Carolina for a 7PM kickoff.
