NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion (6-1-2, 3-0-0) men’ s soccer team dominated No. 13 Kentucky (6-2-3, 3-1-0), 2-0 on Saturday night at the ODU Soccer Complex in front of over 1,000 fans. The Monarchs now lead the league and remain undefeated in conference play. The victory marked Old Dominion’s first ever win against Kentucky.

In just 22 seconds, Brandon Perdue sent Niko Klosterhalfen a pass that was then sent past Kentucky goalkeeper Enrique Facusse to give the Monarchs a 1-0 advantage going into the second half.

The two teams exchanged shots, which Kentucky led the Monarchs 7-6.

In the first half, ODU goalkeeper Mertcan Akar had five saves, while Facusse had just one.

In the second half, scoring began in the 50th minute. Kroschwitz fed Perdue a ball that left him with no Wildcat defenders. Perdue shot a bullet right past Kentucky goalkeeper to the left corner of the net, which propelly the Monarchs, 2-0. 

Tonight’s victory over Kentucky marked goalkeeper Akar’s fourth shutout of the season. Akar had seven saves in Saturday night’s triumph. 

Leading the Monarchs, freshman Brandon Perdue has six goals on the season. Behind Perdue, Max Wilschrey is close behind with four.

Max Wilschrey led the Monarchs with four shots, while Andrew McKelvey and Mikkel Pederson split shots for the Wildcats with three each.

The Monarchs travel south to play Charlotte in a C-USA match-up on Oct. 6 at 7:00 PM.
