IRVING, Texas – Old Dominion University Football senior Rob Thompson was named a semifinalist for the 2017 William V. Campbell Trophy®, presented by Fidelity Investments®. The award recognizes an individual as the best football scholar-athlete in the nation.
A native of Hammonton, New Jersey, Thompson has started three games this season at safety and has 15 tackles with two pass breakups.
For his career, Thompson has nine starts in 29 career games, 64 tackles, five pass breakups and an interception.
Thompson earned his undergraduate degree in finance with a 3.44 GPA and is currently taking classes for a master’s degree in business.
Thompson is one of 181 semifinalists from FBS, FCS and, Division II and III.
The NFF will announce 12-14 finalists on Nov. 1, and each of them will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class, presented by Fidelity Investments.
