MALIBU, Cali. – Adam Moundir of the Old Dominion men’s tennis team won his first round match before falling in three sets to the No. 3 ranked player in the nation at the 2017 ITA Oracle Masters at the Malibu Racquet Club. Moundir earned a bid to play in the tournament after being named the Conference USA Player of the Year last season.

“Overall it was a great tournament for Adam,” said ODU assistant coach Sergey Avdeyev. “In his first match he beat a very good player in two sets. Adam played his second round against the first seed and third best player in the nation and just felt short in the final set. We only have a week to work on couple things before going to All Americans on Friday. Mentally He is definitely more prepared to compete against best players in the nation.”

No. 35 Moundir kicked off the singles tournament with a 7-6(4), 6-4 victory over UCSB’s Simon Freund.

In the second round, Moundir drew the No. 3 nationally ranked player, Petros Chrysochos of Wake Forest. Moundir won the first set 7-6(6), before dropping sets two in three 2-6 and 3-6, respectively.

Moundir and the Tennis Monarchs will be back in action this weekend in Norfolk, Va., where Old Dominion will host the Monarch Invitational from Friday, Sept. 29 to Sunday, Oct. 1.
