NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion (5-1-2) men’s soccer team defeated UAB (2-3-2) by a score of 3-2 in a conference matchup on Saturday night at the ODU Soccer Complex. The Monarchs are now 2-0-0 in Conference USA play.

Three different Monarchs scored on Saturday night.

In the 17th minute, Max Wilschrey shot a bullet through defenders for the Monarchs first goal. Brandon Perdue assisted on the Wilschrey goal. This was Wilschrey’s fourth goal of the 2017 season.

Not long after his assist, in the 19th minute, Brandon Perdue shot to the right side of the net to give the Monarchs a 2-0 lead over the Blazers. Fox Slotemaker assisted on the goal.

Both goalkeepers split saves with two going into the second half.

Scoring began in the 59th minute for the Blazers. Rami Dajani shot right past ODU goalkeeper with an assist from Tarnue Tyler.

The Monarchs answered in the 64th minute with a goal from CJ Taylor assisted by Tyler Edwards. Both the goal and assist were season firsts for Taylor and Edwards.

In the 86th minute, Massimo Ferrin chipped it over goalkeeper Mertcan Akar to take a shot on an empty net and scored for the Blazers.

Old Dominion ultimately outshot the Blazers 11-8 in the Saturday night win. The Monarchs doubled the amount of corner kicks that UAB had with an advantage of 10-5.

Perdue now leads the team in goals with five. Max Wilschrey trails close behind with four.

The Monarchs face conference foe and nationally ranked No. 15 Kentucky on Saturday, Sept. 30, at 7 p.m. at the ODU Soccer Complex.
