NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion men’s soccer team (4-1-2, 1-0-0 C-USA) resumes Conference USA play in their match against UAB (2-2-2, 0-2-0 C-USA) at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23 at the ODU Soccer Complex.
The Monarchs come off a 1-0 win over instate rival VCU on Tuesday night at the ODU Soccer Complex. Junior Niko Klosterhalfen notched the only goal of the game and tallied his second goal for the season. The 1-0 win on Tuesday night recorded the Monarchs 16th shutout against VCU. C-USA defender of the week Mertcan Akar also recorded his second straight shutout and his third overall.
At home, the Monarchs hold a 3-1-2 record.
Offensively, averaging 6.71 shots on goals per game, Old Dominion ranks 23rd in the country. Freshman Brandon Perdue has tallied four goals this season. Behind Perdue, Max Wilschrey and Tyler Edwards both have three goals on the season.
UAB Blazers
Most recently, the Blazers come off two straight losses against conference teams University of Kentucky (5-1-2) and FIU (3-0-2). Leading their offense, sophomore Massimo Ferrin has two goals and one assist on the season. Blazer goalkeeper James Teal has started in goal for every match and has 22 saves on the season. Through six games, the Blazers have only allowed four goals.
Against the Blazers, the Monarchs have an 8-0-1 advantage in the series. The last time the two met, the match went to a double overtime draw.

The Monarchs face No. 15 Kentucky (5-1-2) in a conference matchup on Saturday, Sept. 30, at 7 p.m. at the ODU Soccer Complex. The match will air on the beIn Network online at 7 p.m. and on a one-hour delay on the beIn tv network.
