NORFOLK, Va. – The Monarchs (4-1-2) overwhelmed non-conference rival VCU (1-3-0) on Tuesday night at the ODU Soccer Complex.
The only goal of the night came in the 33rd minute for the Monarchs. Shortly after a corner, junior Niko Klosterhalfen sent a bullet to the right side of the net after he was fed a ball from redshirt sophomore Jimmy Filerman.
After 45 minutes, the Monarchs held a 6-3 shot advantage over the Rams.
The Klosterhalfen goal led the Monarchs to a shutout win after two straight draws at home. Klosterhalfen has two goals and two assists on the season.
For the Rams, Ulrik Edvarsen led the team in shots with three and played all 90 minutes in the match.
“We’re moving in the right direction and becoming more mature and reliable as a team,” said Coach Dawson.
This is the second straight shutout for Akar and his third overall for the season.
