NORFOLK, Va. – For the second time in three weeks, Old Dominion senior defender and captain Jackie Stroud was named the Conference USA Defender of the Week.
Stroud played every minute of both of ODU’s double overtime victories last week. She scored her fourth goal of the season in the 15th minute in a road win at Richmond on Sunday off a set piece. Stroud still leads ODU in goals, as well as points (9).
In Friday’s C-USA opener against Western Kentucky, she had a key block to keep the match tied at 0-0. On Sunday, she had a goal line clearance under pressure late in the second half to keep the score tied at 1-1.
The Raleigh, N.C.-native has led the ODU defense to allowing just two goals in the past 351 minutes of action. Stroud has also helped lead ODU to its best start since 2009.
“She was outstanding leading the back line again and continues to show great defensive qualities and consistency,” said ODU head coach Angie Hind.
Sunday marked the first of four straight road matches for the Monarchs. Old Dominion will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 22, when they take on Florida Atlantic in Boca Raton at 7:00 p.m.
