NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion men’s basketball head coach Jeff Jones announced the addition of Alfis Pilavios, a 6’6” forward from Greece on Wednesday afternoon. Pilavios will be eligible to play the 2017-18 season and has four years of eligibility remaining.

“Alfis is a versatile performer, who brings a mix of toughness, shooting and athleticism to our program,” said Jones. “He has competed at a very high level internationally and will fit in well with our plans to spread the court more this season.”

Pilavios has played for the Greek national teams, most recently the U18 squad, averaging 17.2 minutes, 5.6 points and 1.7 rebounds per contest, while shooting 47.1% from the floor and 37.5% from three. He has also played in the Euro League for Panathinaikos, a team based out of Athens, Greece. During the 2016-17 season for Panathinaikos, Pilavios averaged 11.3 points per game on 44.0% shooting from the floor and 44.4% shooting from deep. He also averaged 5.0 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.0 steal per game.

“I am excited to join the Old Dominion basketball program,” Pilavios said. “It has been a dream to attend college in the United States and ODU has provided me with that opportunity. I especially like the combination of strong academics and high-level basketball. I can’t wait to get started.”
