NORFOLK, Va. --
The 20th-ranked Old Dominion men's soccer team is set to host the 42nd Annual ODU Soccer Classic this weekend. This year's participants include ODU, VCU, Saint Francis (PA) and Iona.

The tournament was started in 1976 and is the longest-running active men's soccer tournament in Division I. The Monarchs have won the Queens Cup (the tournament championship trophy) 17 times and have a combined all-time record of 57-22-2 in the tournament.

The Queens Cup was originally given to Old Dominion University by the British Royal Navy in 1976 in honor of Queen Elizabeth.

Old Dominion (2-0) is coming off of a pair of wins over Appalachian State and Oakland during the opening weekend of play last week. The Monarchs outscored their opponents by a combined score of 5-1, as Brandon Perdue and Max Wilschrey both scored two goals over the weekend. Transfer goalkeeper Mertcan Akar played all 180 minutes in net, making five saves and earning a clean sheet against Oakland. Overall, the Monarchs outshot their opponents by a margin of 36-15.

The undefeated weekend vaulted the Monarchs into the United Soccer Coaches Top 25, as ODU came in at No. 20 in Tuesday's poll.
