NORFOLK, Va. – Brandon Perdue and Max Wilschrey’s goals lifted the Old Dominion men’s soccer team (1-0-0) over Appalachian State (0-1-0) by a 2-1 score in the 2017 regular season opener for both teams on Friday night at the ODU Soccer Complex.
In the 20th minute, Appalachian State’s Juan Hernandez was booked for a red card, which resulted in the Mountaineers playing a man down for the remainder of the contest.
Despite outshooting Appalachian State 11-1 in the opening 45 minutes, the score remained tied, 0-0, at halftime. The Monarchs also held a 4-1 advantage for corner kicks in the first half.
In the 47th minute, ODU’s Hans Kroschwitz played a ball into the box, which found Brandon Perdue, who put the ball in the back of the Mountaineers net to give the Monarchs a 1-0 lead.
Just 53 seconds later, App State tied the match back up at 1-1 off a Reed Hunnicutt free kick, which Michael Davidson finished in the 48th minute.
It was Old Dominion’s Max Wilschrey who scored the game-winner in the 84th minute off a Brandon Perdue assist to ultimately propel the Monarchs to a 2-1 victory on Friday night in front of 227 fans in Norfolk, Va.
For the match, ODU dominated the shot count (22-5) and held a 6-3 advantage for corner kicks.

Old Dominion will be right back in action on Sunday, Aug. 27, when the Monarchs welcome Oakland to the ODU Soccer Complex for a 7:00 p.m. start.

Sunday Dog Days
Sundays are now “Dog Days” at all home matches this year for Old Dominion men’s and women’s soccer and field hockey.
The Sunday Dog Days promotion will allow fans to bring their dogs, on a leash, to any soccer or field hockey game that takes place on a Sunday. There is no charge for bringing a dog.
During soccer games, dogs will be allowed on the grass area on the south and east sides of the ODU Soccer Complex.

With a $25 purchase of the 2017 Soccer Voucher book, fans receive 20 ticket vouchers that can be used in any combination to gain entry to any men's (or women’s) regular season game at the ODU Soccer Complex.
The vouchers can be redeemed in any quantity and represent a 75% savings over purchasing general admission tickets at the gate. In addition to entry to the games, the first 200 fans that purchase their ticket voucher books will receive an ODU soccer scarf.
