NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion women’s soccer team (2-0-0) will take on VCU (1-0-0) on Thursday, Aug. 24 at 7:00 p.m. at Sportsbackers Stadium in Richmond, Va. Then on Sunday, Aug. 27 at 4:30 p.m., the Monarchs welcome No. 12 nationally ranked Duke (2-1-0) to the ODU Soccer Complex.

The Monarchs kicked off the 2017 season with two victories at home last week. First, Old Dominion downed George Mason, 4-1, before blanking Albany, 3-0. Senior captain defender, Jackie Stroud, leads ODU in scoring with three goals and an assist (seven points). In her first career collegiate game, Carla Morich dished out three assists. Also scoring a goal for the Monarchs so far are Kira Laurento, Iris Achterhof (two assists), Emily Roberts and Talia Tapper.

Goalkeeper Krista Moisio (10 saves) and the ODU defense have allowed just one goal in 180 minutes of action.

VCU enters Thursday’s contest with a 1-0-0 record after a 2-0 win over Liberty on Sunday. The Rams were supposed to play Iowa last Friday night; however, that match was cancelled due to inclement weather.

No. 12 Duke has picked up victories against Clemson, 2-1, as well as Xavier, 3-1. The Blue Devils sole loss came against No. 4 North Carolina by a 2-1 score in overtime. In 2016, Duke advanced to the Quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament.
