NORFOLK, Va. -- Jacquelyn Duggins has been named an assistant coach for Old Dominion women’s lacrosse, head coach Heather Holt announced on Wednesday.
"I am very excited to welcome Jacquelyn Duggins to our coaching staff,” said Holt. “JD's passion for the game and her contagious personality will have an immediate impact on our players. Her extensive playing and coaching background are top notch.”
Duggins comes to Old Dominion from Virginia, where she served as the volunteer assistant for one season. Prior to UVA, Duggins was the inaugural head coach at Gardner-Webb, leading the Running Bulldogs during the very first Division I season in 2015.
During her early years on the sidelines, Duggins also coached for Liberty, Durham Univeristy (England) and Saint Anne’s Belfied High School in Charlottesville.
“I am honored to coach alongside Heather Holt,” said Duggins. “I have a lot of respect for her and the program she is building. I am super appreciative to Heather and the Old Dominion athletic department for this opportunity.”
Duggins began her collegiate playing career at ODU, appearing in three games during her freshman season in 2007. During that season, she was teammates with fellow ODU assistant coach Ashley Waters. Duggins then transferred to Virginia Tech, playing for the Hokies for three seasons. She captained the team for two seasons and started 45 games over her VT career.
“I am excited to be back where it all started for me,” continued Duggins. “I am thrilled to work alongside my former teammate, Ashley Waters. Great things are continuing with ODU Lacrosse and I look forward to our upcoming season.”
A Charlottesville native, Duggins graduated from Virginia Tech in 2010 with a degree in psychology.
“JD is the perfect addition to our program,” said Holt. “She will help our team excel in every aspect, on and off the field."
Duggins replaces former assistant Ashley Vellines, who left the program this summer.
