NORFOLK, Va. - Iris Achterhof buried a penalty kick in the 82nd minute to give Old Dominion University Women's Soccer a 2-1 victory over Longwood 2-1 Friday night in an exhibition game at the ODU Soccer Complex.
With just over eight minutes left on the clock, Longwood was called for a handball in the box giving the Monarchs a penalty kick that Achterhof knocked in for the game-winner.
The Lancers took a 1-0 lead late in the first half on a goal from Sydney Wallace with an assist from Janese Quick.
ODU tied the scored in the 62nd minute when Achterhof slid a pass to Hogan who booted one past the keeper to tie the score at one.
The Monarchs open the season on Friday, Aug. 18 when they host George Mason at 7 p.m. All youth (12 and under) that wear their jerseys to Friday’s game will receive FREE ADMISSION AND a VOUCHER. The voucher is good for free entry to Sunday’s match (Aug. 20 vs. Albany at 6:00 p.m.) AND the first 30 vouchers presented on Sunday will also receive a free ODU prize pack.
