IRVING, Texas – Conference USA announced 14 recipients of the Jim Castañeda Postgraduate Scholarship Awards. Christian Wirth of the ODU men's soccer program was named to the list.
Dr. Castañeda served at Rice University for 46 years as an educator, coach and Faculty Athletics Representative before he passed away in November 2008. This is in the ninth year the award has been bestowed upon worth C-USA student-athletes.
The conference annually awards the $4,000 Postgraduate Scholarships to graduates as selected by the C-USA Faculty Athletics Representatives and approved by the Board of Directors.
Wirth finished his undergraduate career with a 3.74 GPA earning a bachelor's in exercise science with a minor in psychology. He who was named to the 2016 C-USA All-Tournament Team after helping his team reach the semifinals and defeating (RV) South Carolina in the quarters.
He is a four-time letter winner who played defense for the Monarchs. Wirth played in 28 games, starting 16, helping the defense post three shutouts in the 2016 season. He was named to the C-USA Commissioner's honor roll three times during his undergrad career.
Wirth will continue his education at Northeastern University where he was admitted into the Physical Therapy program.
