NORFOLK, Va. -- Old Dominion middle infielders Zach Rutherford and Jared Young have both been named ABCA/Rawlings All-Americans, the organization announced over the weekend.

Both Rutherford and Young were named to the ABCA/Rawling All-America Third Team, marking the first time since 1990 that two Old Dominion players earned All-American honors in the same season.

Overall, it marks only the third time in the program's DI history that the Monarchs have had multiple All-Americans. Rutherford and Young join George Sells and Pat Evangelista in 1990 and Todd Azar and Kevin Bearse in 1985 in the elite club.

Rutherford, a junior shortstop from Chesapeake, hit .332 with 25 doubles and 56 RBIs in 2017. The Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year, Rutherford set an ODU single-season record for fielding percentage by a shortstop with a .982 mark. Rutherford was selected in the sixth round by the Tampa Bay Rays in the MLB Draft last week and is also one of five finalists for the Brooks Wallace Award, given to the nation's top shortstop.

Young, a junior second baseman from Prince George, Canada, led the Monarchs in 11 offensive categories, including average (.367), home runs (7) and OPS (1.021). A juco transfer from Connors State Community College in Oklahoma, Young was named the C-USA Newcomer of the Year and also earned All-American honors from Perfect Game and Collegiate Baseball News. Young was a 15th-round selection of the Chicago Cubs in last week's draft.
