ATHENS, Ga. – No. 53 nationally ranked Adam Moundir, a junior on the Old Dominion men's tennis team, fell in the First Round of the 2017 NCAA Tournament to the No. 2 seed and No. 6 nationally ranked Nuno Borges of Mississippi State by a 6-3, 7-5 score on Wednesday afternoon at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of Georgia.
Moundir (Luzern, Switzerland) became the first ODU male player to qualify for the NCAA Singles Tournament since 2009, when Alex Seleznev accomplished the feat.
“I'm very proud of Adams performance all year,” said ODU head coach Dominik Mueller. “He led the team all season long and deserved to play on the highest stage of college tennis. This experience here will help him personally and our program to take the next step next season and compete with teams and players at this stage of college tennis.”
Moundir, the back-to-back Conference USA Player of the Year, finished the season with a 17-5 dual match record. In April, Moundir was one of just six student-athletes to be named to the 2017 InTouch Credit Union C-USA Men's Tennis All-Academic Team.
The Intercollegiate Tennis named Moundir the Player to Watch for the entire Atlantic Region for next season.
