IRVING, Texas -- Following a .526 week at the plate with 13 RBIs, Old Dominion senior outfielder Turner Bishop has been named the Conference USA Hitter of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
Bishop led the 25th-ranked Monarchs to a 3-2 week, including a 2-1 win home series win over FIU. During the three-game set against the Panthers, Bishop hit .583 with two home runs and 12 RBIs to help the ODU offense score a total of 41 runs in the series.
In the 21-1 game one win over FIU, Bishop went 3-for-5 with a double, a grand slam and seven RBIs, powering the Monarchs to the most runs they have scored in a game since 2009. The seven runs knocked in are also the most by a Monarch this season.
In the series rubber match in game three, Bishop turned in a 3-for-4 day with a home run and three RBIs. With the Monarchs trailing 10-2 late in the game, it was Bishop's go-ahead two-run home run that capped off a nine-run seventh inning to propel ODU to a thrilling 11-10 victory.
For the week, Bishop hit safely in all five games and improved his overall average on the season by 34 points from .273 to .307.
The award is Bishop's first C-USA weekly honor of his career. For more information, head to ConferenceUSA.com.
