OAK RIDGE, Tenn. – Old Dominion rowing finished the 2017 Big 12 Rowing Championships seventh ahead West Virginia in the final standings of the conference tournament.
Sophomore Taylor Phy represented Old Dominion on the 2017 Big 12 All-Tournament team after helping the 1st V8+ boat edge out West Virginia in the First Eight Petite Final and earning ODU the 7th place overall finish.
The University of Texas claimed their third-straight Big 12 Rowing Championship with 137 team points and 48 automatic qualifying points. Oklahoma finished second (41) and Tennessee took third with 35 automatic qualifier points.
ODU's day started with the 3rd V8+ racing head-to-head with West Virginia in the first Petite Final of the day. The Mountaineers (7:13.317) finished ahead of the Lady Monarchs who came in with a time of 7:17.546.
Next up, ODU again faced WVU, this time in the 1st V4+ Petite Final. The Lady Monarchs finished behind the Mountaineers (7:33.229) with a time of 7:42.696.
The 2nd V8+ came in second behind WVU in the third Petite Final of the morning. ODU ended with a time of 7:13.383, while WVU finished at 7:00.956.
In the final race of the day for the Lady Monarchs, the First Eight pulled out ahead of the Mountaineers finishing five seconds faster than their opponents with a time of 6:42.020. With the win over WVU in the 1st V8+, the Lady Monarchs won the tiebreaker and finished seventh overall.
